This June

2013 hasn't been the easiest year for me so far. A little while ago I was thinking back at last year, and I could clearly see that I haven't been as happy as I was then. Even the arrival of spring after such a long winter didn't bring me the excitement I was counting on. For a while, I actually worried that I was no longer able to find my joy as I had done before - in the simple, little things - and that life had got me down to a point where I couldn't fully get back up anymore.

June, however, brought along a slight shift; it brought along more warmth, more sunshine, and more smiles, despite the challenges that are still there. It was a month of celebration - of my mom's, my blog's and my birthday's, and of summer too - that brought an overall happy feeling to most days.

Beyond that, these are the few other things that made June a good month for me:

Craft time. In June, I got more serious about making time for crafting in my days. I had been craving it and dreaming about it for a very long time, and the frustration about not actually doing anything crafty was building inside me. So, from starting a new knitting project and completing a couple of minor sewing projects that will nonetheless have a big impact on my wardrobe (hopefully more about this in later posts), all the way to seeking inspiration in magazines and new TV shows (I love the new Flea Market Flip on HGTV), I have been working on creative projects all month long.

Work wear. There are a few things I'm not very fond of about my work, but something that I enjoy is that I get to play with my clothes. Last summer, I spent most of my time at home, which only allowed for very few opportunities to dress up. Now, I'm outside of the house at least five days a week, and this June the weather has warmed up enough that I don't feel as cold anymore once I step inside my overly air-conditioned office building, so that this month I've started taking out all my skirts and dresses.

Online chats. This month, more than before, we've been talking to family members - cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents - who live overseas. It's been so great to see them doing well wherever they are, and to catch up and chat as if there weren't thousands of miles between us.

  1. Aww I'm glad you've been able to find the joy in little things again. It's definitely hard when we live in such a busy world.
